North Europe

My Journey Across North Europe

DENMARK

Denmark is a small but fascinating Scandinavian country known for its high quality of life, fairytale landscapes, and the warm atmosphere of hygge. A walk through Copenhagen takes you through charming districts like Nyhavn, where colorful houses line a picturesque canal, and Christianshavn, filled with bridges and small boats. The city is the capital of cycling, with more bicycles than cars, creating a pleasant and healthy atmosphere. Denmark is also a top gastronomic destination, home to Noma, one of the world’s best restaurants, as well as numerous hygge cafés offering fragrant pastries and coffee. Beyond Copenhagen, Denmark boasts stunning castles, areas rich with Viking heritage, as well as sandy beaches and tranquil islands.

Although I have only visited Denmark so far, I plan to one day explore the other countries of North Europe, from Iceland to Finland. Join me in discovering all the beauty Northern Europe has to offer!

Composed of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, the United Kingdom is a destination that offers something for every traveler – from culture and architecture enthusiasts to nature explorers. England is known for its historic towns and ancient sites such as Stonehenge. London, the capital city, is world-famous for its tourist attractions: Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, and Tower Bridge.
Don’t forget Scotland, with the old town charm of Edinburgh, and Wales, which offers hundreds of castles waiting to be explored.

SWEDEN

Known for its clean and untouched nature as well as its many historic towns, Sweden offers everything for travelers looking to escape typical tourist destinations. Its capital, Stockholm, located across 14 islands, offers numerous picturesque streets and museums for visitors. Of course, its gastronomy shouldn’t be overlooked, with Sweden standing out for its meatballs (Köttbullar) and herring dishes. Beyond the cities, Sweden invites you to explore nature filled with lakes, forests, and northern lights in the far north.
Ireland, known as the Emerald Isle, is home to endless green landscapes filled with Celtic cultural heritage. The capital city, Dublin, located along the River Liffey, is rich in medieval history and art. Ireland’s nature features unforgettable formations like the Cliffs of Moher, as well as lakes, forests, and excellent hiking trails. The country is also famous for its musical and literary traditions, as well as alcoholic beverages like Guinness, which can be found in the many pubs across Ireland.

ICELAND

Iceland is a unique destination – dramatic landscapes, active volcanoes, geysers, glaciers, and waterfalls create a natural backdrop rarely seen elsewhere. Filled with untouched volcanic nature, there are many tourist routes available, such as the Golden Circle, which takes you through geysers and Thingvellir National Park. Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik, is home to most of the country’s population. It is known for its many historical landmarks, churches, museums, and geothermal baths perfect for relaxation.
Finland is a country of incredibly pure nature, modern design, and ancient traditions. Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is filled with traditional Scandinavian architecture. Surrounded by parks and cycling paths, it offers a peaceful retreat for every visitor. Being a country with lots of snow, Finland offers winter activities such as sledding and skiing, as well as overnight stays in ice hotels and glass igloos. One of the unique experiences in Finland is watching the northern lights. From September to March, the north of the country – especially Lapland – provides perfect conditions for enjoying the aurora borealis. You can watch them in comfort from warm saunas in the local villages of the north.
