Duga Resa

Explore my Hometown

I was born in Duga Resa, where I later attended Ivan Goran Kovačić Elementary School in the town. From an early age, this city offered me complete freedom: I would roam the meadows and forests with my neighbors and swim in the beautiful, crystal-clear waters of the Mrežnica River. We built treehouses and crafted bows and arrows from wood. Along the way, we played football and basketball in the neighbors’ yards.

Later, I set out on my own adventures, not just along the shores of Croatia but also across the coastlines of the world. I explored the cultures and landmarks of this planet. My career as a tour guide took me across Europe, North and South America, and the Middle East. I’ve seen rainforests, mountains, seas, rivers, and lakes, but no matter how far I’ve traveled, Duga Resa will always be my home.

Duga Resa is located in the area of the Mrežnica River, known for its crystal-clear water and numerous waterfalls along its course. The region around Duga Resa features many swimming spots that stretch along the area of the Mrežnički Brig. The town offers a variety of accommodation options for tourists, from modern and elegant homes to traditional countryside houses in the surrounding areas.

Interested visitors can further explore the surroundings by visiting Karlovac and Novigrad na Dobri, two spectacular tourist destinations, each featuring a historic medieval castle.

Duga Resa is a small town known for its textile industry. It was first mentioned in 1380 and has since developed into a major industrial center in Croatia. The construction of the railway between Karlovac and Rijeka in 1873 enabled the beginning of industrial development in the region. The town lies in the narrowest part of Croatia, connecting the continental and coastal parts of the country. Tourists traveling through Croatia can easily visit Duga Resa and explore all of its natural and cultural beauty.

The town also takes pride in its sports activities, which include football, table tennis, volleyball, and basketball.

It is an ideal destination for lovers of active tourism, nature relaxation, and cultural heritage exploration. Surrounded by dense forests and untouched nature, the city offers opportunities for walks, cycling tours, and hiking.

A visit to Duga Resa is not complete without tasting the local specialties. Traditional dishes such as fresh river fish, homemade cheeses, and cured meat products reflect the fusion of nature and tradition in this region.
